Heavy sliding lead. Twelve ounces is what a big live bait needs in deep water or hard current — anything lighter and the bait simply swims the rig off the spot.
The sliding design matters even at this weight. A big bait on a fixed sinker is anchored and looks unnatural; on a sliding egg it can still move, and a fish that picks it up feels line running rather than twelve ounces of lead.
The egg shape rolls over rock and reef instead of wedging, which saves rigs on hard bottom.
