Collection: Wahoo Tackle

Big trolling spoons and slant-face lures for wahoo.

Wahoo are the fastest fish you are likely to hook, and everything about targeting them follows from that. They hunt at speed, they want a big target, and they hit with a strike that will empty a reel before you have registered what happened.

High-speed trolling is the method — considerably faster than you would pull for mahi or tuna. That is where most tackle fails, because a lure that swims beautifully at seven knots spins and blows out of the water at fifteen. The thin Drone spoon profile is one of the few designs that holds a tight wobble at genuine wahoo speeds, which is why the 5 and 5.5 inch sizes have such a long record.

Get it deep. Wahoo hold well below the surface and a lure skipping on top gets ignored — run it behind a planer or a heavy trolling weight.

Wire is mandatory. Wahoo have the sharpest teeth in the ocean and they will cut anything else instantly, usually taking an expensive lure with them.

Fish structure and temperature breaks along the Gulf shelf edge and the Atlantic stream. Best in the cooler months on both coasts.
