The difference between a ball bearing swivel and a cheap barrel swivel only shows up under load, which is exactly when it matters. A barrel swivel binds the moment drag pressure comes on it and simply stops turning — so every rotation of your spinning lure or trolled bait winds twist directly into your main line.

Line twist is not a cosmetic problem. It becomes wind knots on a spinning reel, it weakens the line, and it eventually costs you a fish. A true ball bearing swivel keeps rotating under pressure and the twist never accumulates.

If you throw spoons or troll anything at all, this is the cheapest meaningful upgrade in your terminal box.
