Collection: Pompano Rigs & Jigs

Hand-tied pompano rigs in 2-hook and 3-hook builds, plus the jigs for working them off the beach or from a boat.

Pompano are the reason a lot of people fish the surf at all. They run the beaches in schools, they pull far harder than a two-pound fish has any right to, and they are the best-eating fish in the wash. They also feed with their nose down in the trough, rooting sand fleas out of the bottom — which is exactly what a pompano rig is engineered to imitate.

The float beads are the whole design. They lift each hook just off the sand so your bait sits in the feeding zone instead of buried in it, and the color adds the flash that pulls a cruising school over. Fresh sand fleas are the top bait; clam and shrimp both produce.

The run follows the water temperature — fall through spring on the Gulf beaches from the Panhandle down through Sarasota, and up the Atlantic side through the Carolinas as it warms in spring.
