A weighted rig is a complete system out of the package. You tie it to your main line and you are fishing — no separate sinker to clip, nothing to add in the dark, one fewer connection point that can fail under load.

Building the weight into the rig also puts the lead exactly where the rig was designed to carry it, so it swims and holds the way it is meant to instead of however you happened to clip a sinker on.
