Beads for rig building — float beads, attractor beads and knot protectors.

Beads do three separate jobs on a saltwater rig, and the good ones do all three at once. They add flotation, lifting a hook off the sand and into the trough where pompano and whiting actually feed. They add colour and flash that pulls a cruising school in from a distance. And they act as a buffer between a sliding sinker and your knot, so the lead does not batter the connection until it fails.

Colour genuinely matters on the beach. Chartreuse and orange are the traditional pompano combination for a reason.

If you tie your own rigs, beads are the cheapest way to noticeably improve them.
