Collection: Spoons

Casting and trolling spoons in the sizes that move mackerel, bluefish, jacks and kingfish.

A spoon is the oldest trick in saltwater and still one of the hardest to beat, because it does two things at once — it throws flash like a fleeing baitfish and it puts out a wobble that fish feel on the lateral line before they ever see it. That second part is why a spoon keeps producing in the stained water you get on the Gulf side after a blow, when a plastic goes quiet.

Spanish mackerel want it small and moving fast. Kings want it bigger and deeper, usually behind a planer or a trolling weight. Match the size to the bait in the water and you can watch a spoon out-fish everything else in the box.

Always run a short length of wire or heavy fluoro — mackerel teeth cut mono clean.
