The larger cedar plug, for bigger fish and bigger bait.

Cedar plugs are close to the simplest lure in saltwater and have been catching tuna longer than almost anything else. The wood is the reason — cedar's density and surface make the plug swim with a slightly erratic roll rather than tracking straight, and it holds a wet trail plastic does not.

Six inches steps it up for yellowfin, bigger blackfin and wahoo, and matches the larger bait offshore in late season.

Traditionally run naked and close to the transom, in the prop wash where whitewater hides the leader.
