Yellowtail snapper are the most line-shy fish on the reef, and 1/16oz is the answer to that. It is barely enough lead to sink, which is exactly the point — the jig drifts back in the chum slick at the same speed as the chum itself, looking like just another piece of food rather than something attached to a line.

Chartreuse is the go-to in stained water and on overcast days, when a natural colour disappears and yellowtail need something to track.

Fish it on the lightest fluorocarbon you can stand. On yellowtail, dropping leader size is almost always what turns the bite back on.
