Collection: Speckled Trout Tackle
Popping corks, light jig heads, soft plastics and spoons for speckled trout.
Trout are a searching problem. They hold over grass in open water rather than on obvious structure, which means a big flat can look identical for four hundred yards and hold fish in only one part of it. The popping cork exists to solve exactly that.
Snap the rod and the concave face pops while the beads rattle — a noise that imitates trout crashing shrimp on the surface. Fish hear it from a long way off and come to investigate, which turns an empty flat into water you can actually search. The rhythm is pop, then wait: almost every strike comes during the pause, not the pop.
Under the cork, a shrimp or a paddle tail on a light jig head. The cork holds it above the grass instead of letting it sink in and foul.
Trout have soft mouths and delicate hook holds, so fish a lighter drag than instinct suggests and do not horse them at the boat. Bigger fish come at first and last light.
