Collection: Popping Corks
Popping corks for inshore fishing over grass, sand and oyster.
A popping cork is a sound-making device that happens to also suspend your bait. Snap the rod and the concave face pops while the beads rattle on the wire — a noise that imitates trout and redfish crashing shrimp on the surface. Fish hear it from a long way off and come to investigate, which turns a big empty flat into something you can actually search.
It also holds your bait at a set depth above grass instead of letting it sink into it and foul.
The rhythm is pop, then wait. Almost every strike comes during the pause after the pop, not during it. This is the standard rig for trout and reds from Texas through Louisiana and around the Florida coast.
