A trolling feather is a lightweight lure that swims high and fast in the spread, which suits exactly how mahi hunt. They are surface-oriented, aggressive and visual — they come up to investigate anything that looks like a small fleeing baitfish, and a feather does that convincingly at trolling speed.

Because they are light, feathers work over a wide speed range and will not blow out of the water when you push it up looking for tuna.

Standard offshore practice from the Gulf edge to the Atlantic stream: pull a spread of feathers along weed lines and color changes, and keep a pitch bait ready. Once a school of mahi comes up on a hooked fish, they will eat almost anything you throw.
